Why do response quotes differ?
An Office Action may involve a narrow clarification, a specimen issue or a substantive refusal. Some minor issues may be addressed through a discussion with the examining attorney; others require a written response. A useful quote starts with the actual notice rather than the assumption that every letter requires the same work.
What should you compare in each quote?
Ask providers to describe the deliverable in ordinary language. “Office Action help” is too broad to show whether two proposals cover the same task.
- Which refusals and requirements will be addressed?
- Who prepares and reviews the work?
- Does the quote include research, drafting, revisions and submission?
- Is review of earlier responses included?
- What additional work would trigger a new quote?
Separate service charges from government charges
The provider’s charge and any applicable USPTO charge are different items. Ask whether a proposed extension, appeal or other procedural step has separate government fees. Check the current official fee information for the specific filing; do not assume every response carries an identical USPTO charge.
Confirm who is responsible for professional advice
If your matter needs legal analysis, ask which qualified professional will provide it and whether representation is part of the engagement. A research report, intake conversation or filing-support package should not be assumed to include an attorney-client relationship.
How to request a more useful estimate
Provide the public serial number, notice date, notice type if known, and a short description of the issue. If an earlier response exists, mention it. Ask for a written scope and separate charges rather than an approval prediction. Do not send confidential strategy through a general inquiry form.
Get a quote based on your actual notice
Trademarks Expert offers an intake route for Office Action matters. Share the public record details to discuss scope and fees. This article does not publish a response-service price because the work has not been assessed. A quote request does not extend your response period.
